Solar power helps Niger’s capital keep power cuts at bay • FRANCE 24 English
A new solar power plant has been changing the lives of many people in Niger’s capital city Niamey by reducing the number of power cuts. The plant is the country’s response to ECOWAS sanctions that cut electricity supplies from Nigeria, Niger’s main supplier, and comes as a relief after about five months of economic recession in the country.

Since 2009, the price of solar energy has come down by 90 percent. That’s no accident. It’s the result of policy interventions from the US to Germany to China.
As policy analyst Gregory Nemet puts it, “No one country is responsible. It was a relay race rather than a competition.” The global flow of knowledge, people, technology, and policy helped bring down the price per watt from more than $100 in 1976 to less than $0.50 today, according to this analysis from the folks at Our World in Data. https://ourworldindata.org/cheap-renewables-growth

The Failure of America's $1 Billion Solar Farm
The Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project was proposed back in 2011, and intended on meeting Nevada's rising demand for electricity to power 75,000 homes throughout the state. While the project was funded by the US Department of Energy and completed in 2015, it faced a number of challenges in the years afterward. This was mainly because of the new form of Solar Technology it was using, which was the first of its kind in the United States.
This new technology would ultimately lead the the failure of this $1 Billion dollar facility, which went bankrupt in 2020. But even as the future of this project looked uncertain, The US Buereu of Reclamation stated that the project had resumed full operation in July of 2021, due to increased demand for electricity throughout the state. Today, the future ...

How the world's largest concentrated solar power project works
Modern technologies create opportunities for any state to switch to renewable sources of cheap energy from water, wind, or the sun.
But for this to happen, of course, efforts must be made and several large-scale reforms and projects implemented, as was done, for instance, in Morocco. How did this country manage to build the largest concentrated solar power plant that generates electricity even at night?
And what has enabled Morocco, which has meager oil and gas reserves, to become the largest energy importer in the Middle East and North Africa?
Check out our video! Morocco is the only country in North Africa that does not have its own fossil fuel reserves and imports more than 90% of its energy resources. Attempts to develop the industry led to electricity consumption increasing by 5.6% ...

If we can learn the right lessons from solar’s success, it could help us develop and deploy the technology we need to keep our planet habitable and avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Today, the future of this project is still uncertain, but has resumed operation for the state of Nevada.

Attempts to develop the industry led to electricity consumption increasing by 5.6% per year, and there is nowhere to take it within the country. The government spends billions of dollars importing fuel.
To rid the state of energy dependence, King Mohammed VI set a goal: To generate 52% of electricity needs using green energy by 2030.
But how will it be achieved? Hydro resources in Morocco are bad; most of the rivers dry up, and reservoirs built in the 1960s provide the population with drinking water, but their energy resource is limited. In 2008 the authorities adopted the New Energy Strategy.
